ISINTU
ISINTU IS AN AFRICAN ART MOVEMENT THAT SEEKS TO RECONNECT WITH AND CELEBRATE INDIGENOUS AFRICAN KNOWLEDGE SYSTEMS. FOUNDED ON A SIMPLE QUESTION: “WHAT COULD AFRICA BE IF OUR HISTORY WAS DIFFERENT?”
BUQU - From the Xhosa word self: Buqu. A digi tal sel f por t rai t . How imagine my alternate identity would look.
BOTHOZA - Unapologetic female alter ego that out thinks men and enemies alike. Leader of the IOT Riot. And free in every way.
BOTHUSE - a Xhosa word that means “shock them” in Xhosa. This is really to practice not getting used to comfort. But really to push yourself as when one pushes beyond their own limitations we tend to shock people beyond their expectations.
QHAWE OF BOTS - inspired by the women who move the dial forward juxtaposing traditional swag and modernity. The unapologetically African, well travelled 🧳 and bossed up icons in real life. Masters of duality. Talk to them nicely.
THWELE ISWAG - means “we carry a lot of swag/style”. This piece aims to inspire us to change our mindsets to conquer whatever situations we may find ourselves in. The image shows a woman with all the latest sneakers loved by hypbeasts on her head yet she is not even remotely a hypebeast. This is to illustrate that we are carried to a stage till we are able to carry ourselves. All challenges are first won psychologically and spiritually, we must never lose sight of our value. I t ’s sacred and eternal. No situation is bigger than your own faith, value and strength. You have swag in your dna.
NONGQAWE - Imagines the consciousness of Nongqawuse’s uploaded as artificial intelligence to a humanoid to redeem/retell her story in the modern day.
